Slow Food farm to table in the Mississippi Delta

Celebrate the local farms that sustain us!

Levon's is serving a special Slow Food USA Joyful Dinner on Thursday. Chef Carl is firing up glazed pumpkin from Chicken Scratch Farms, and Jonathan & Naomi are shaking up spirits from Delta Dirt Distillery.

Julie Diaz founded Clarksdale Cooks to bring people together here. She's developed this dish to highlight the joys of Slow Food in the Delta. What is it?

The dish is miso-glazed Jarrahdale pumpkin wedges, on a bed of creamy brown butter sage mashed potatoes, red onions and spinach fresh off the skillet.

"Slow Food" is the opposite of fast food! It's a movement supporting local agriculture, with an emphasis on:

1) quality, fresh, local ingredients,

2) sustainable production,

3) fair prices for farmers, and accessible food prices for everyone.

This feels apt now in the heart of the Delta, where many of our local farmers are hurting.

The blues was born on farmland.

Both travelers and locals still come downtown for live blues -- and quench our thirst, and nourish body+soul at places like Levon's Bar & Grill. Levon's is a favorite for blues travelers and locals alike.

So it's perfect that they're bringing us all together with Slow Food this week! (And maybe even hooking you up with some of Chris Litwiller's Jarrahdale pumpkins to take home yourself.)

Make your rez now, and we'll see you for #SFJoyfulDinner on Thursday!
